Death penalty case underway
The wheels are finally moving on the Jamie Weis murder trial after four years of delay in defense funding and a petition for certiorari going all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Judge Tommy Hankinson presided over the Oct. 15 status hearing in which the defense filed three motions. The judge set another hearing for Nov. 30 to discuss any other motions and jury selection. [Full story »]

Vigil set for Sunday
A prayer vigil for murder victim Donna Ogletree Johnson will be held Sunday, Oct. 17 from 4-6 p.m. at the Lamar County courthouse. Johnson was tortured and killed in 1984. Her killers were never brought to justice.
