Nine dogs and cats were neutered at the Friends of Pike County Animals first spay/neuter clinic, saving the county from dealing with tens of thousands of strays in the next five years. Dr. Christi Ware, who lives in the county, performed the operations at a discounted price for the FPCA spay/neuter clinic.

The Pike County Health Department received funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support vaccine purchase and administration. Donna’s tortuous demise began sometime on July 15, 1984. She was savagely beaten, sexually violated with a metal rod, run over with a vehicle while still alive and finally dispatched with three blows to the head. [Full story »]

With soaring temperatures come soaring electric bills. Last month was one of the hottest months on record for Pike County. From June 8 to Aug. 8, there were a total of 645 hours when temperatures exceeded 90 degrees, an increase of about 275%. The average over the last 10 years is only 233 hours hotter than 90 degrees.
