No water woes here

The water is still safe to drink in Pike County while residents in Upson County have been forced to boil their water to eliminate contaminants twice in the last six months. A water main break June 21 shut the water treatment plant down for repairs, affecting more than 2,000 customers and lasting five days. In February, possibly untreated water in the system forced schools and businesses there to close, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. [Full story »]

Death of Concord man declared accidental

A Concord man's death was declared accidental after preliminary autopsy results were released. Gary F. Verego, 54, was found dead at 11217 Hwy. 18 West in Concord just after 1 p.m. June 24 by a relative. [Full story »] 

Scouts build memorial

Four local Eagle Scouts worked hard to show their appreciation for veterans by building a memorial park in Meansville as part of their Eagle projects. Sam Baskin, Michael Brown, Justin Hinckley and Will Watson all had a part in building the walking trail, planting the landscaping and erecting the flag pole next to the fire station on Means Street. Teen Challenge addresses security issues

Commissioner Tommy Powers announced at the regular meeting June 9 that county commissioners met with Teen Challenge leaders June 1 to discuss security measures at the Prayer Mountain facility. There are 19 boys housed there. Six boys have run away from the facility since it opened over a year ago. Commissioners and residents in the area have complained about security issues at the facility. [Full story »]
