The Lamar County sheriff's office has issued a lookout for two missing juveniles who may be together in a stolen vehicle.

The missing pair are 12-year-old Rhiannon Nicole Smith and Joseph Wassill, 16. The pair are thought to be together in a stolen Dodge Caravan bearing Georgia license plate BIJ1725. [Full story »]

Commissioners discussed projects for a proposed November 2010 SPLOST referendum at the April 14 meeting. Chairman Doug Mangham said from past board discussions, the SPLOST projects could include roofing the courthouse, renovating the courtroom, boxing the building’s gables and putting the rest of the SPLOST funds toward a new judicial complex. Superior court judges in the Griffin Judicial Circuit met Tuesday, April 20 to discuss filling the chief magistrate position in Pike County.

"The superior court is interested in receiving applications for magistrate judge to fill the unexpired term," said superior court Judge Christopher Edwards. [Full story »] 

Pride of Pike cancelled?

Funding of the Pride of Pike parade and fireworks display was a hot issue at the April 14 commission meeting. Last year the county funded the $12,000 fireworks display. The recreation authority requested $9,000 from the county this year after putting $3,000 of parks and recreation money toward the annual event. Commissioners did not decide the issue but it will be brought up again at the April 27 meeting. [Full story »]

Fruit production in Pike County may be better this year than last if there are no late-season frosts.

Concerned citizens will gather for a local Tea Party Patriot's tax day protest on April 15 from 6-9 p.m. on the courthouse square. Speakers will include state Rep. Billy Maddox and other local leaders. Organizer and stay-at-home mom T.C. Pike County school's biggest auditorium has re-opened after a long rainy winter caused roof and water damage inside the building. The school maintenance department coated the roof to temporarily prevent future leaks just in time for Pike Atlas and Christ Chapel's Easter service to be held there. [Full story »]

GBI investigating magistrate's office

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed it began investigating a Pike County court last year. Special agent in charge Rodney Wall of the GBI's Region 2 office said the Pike magistrate court has been under investigation since 2009. [Full story »] 

School bus driver fired after wreck

A Pike County school bus driver lost control on a dirt road and hit a tree around 4 p.m. Thursday, April 1. Eleven students were injured in the wreck and three were transported from the scene to area hospitals. [Full story »]
