Suspected car thieves caught, car burns
At around 3 a.m. Friday morning, a Pike County Sheriff's deputy initiated a traffic stop on Highway 19 at Shackleford Road. The driver of a white Ford Mustang pulled over briefly then sped away, according to a press release from the PCSO. The 2003 Ford Mustang was stolen from Spalding County.

Burn ban starts May 1
If spring cleaning in your yard has yielded piles of sticks and brush, be sure to call for a burn permit before the end of April. Starting May 1, a burn ban is implemented for 54 Georgia counties including Pike and surrounding counties. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division's Open Burning Ban lasts until Sept. 30 and prohibits the burning of yard debris in addition to the year-round state ban on burning household garbage.
