The debt secured by said Deed to Secure Debt and Note has been and is hereby declared due and payable in full because of, among other possible events of default, non-payment of monthly installments on said loan, pursuant to the terms of said Deed to Secure Debt and Note. Protest planned for Tuesday
Citizens met Saturday in the Pike County High School cafeteria to make final plans for a protest to be held on the courthouse square just before Tuesday's board of commissioners meeting. The protest will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the north side of the square near the commissioners building.

Black Bean Quesadillas
This is a delicious and quick appetizer. You can easily add shredded chicken or beef.
Ingredients:
2 burrito-size flour tortillas
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can refried low-fat black beans
1 cup chunky salsa
1 1/2 cups Mexican-style shredded cheese
1/2 cup prepared guacamole (from the refrigerated section)
2 tablespoons sour cream
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Lay 1 tortilla on a clean work surface. Spread the beans evenly over the tortilla. Spoon 3/4 cup of salsa over the beans, then sprinkle with the cheese. Top with the second tortilla. Place the quesadilla on a foil-covered cookie sheet.
Bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is crisp and brown. Meanwhile, swirl the guacamole and sour cream together in a small bowl. Cut the quesadilla into 4 equal portions and transfer to a plate. Serve with the guacamole mixture and remaining 1/4 cup of salsa. [Full story »]

Schools reduce teacher pay
The Pike County board of education passed a budget amendment resolution by a vote of 4-2 at the Feb. 9 meeting. The resolution will reduce teacher pay for the remainder of the school year, extending state budget cuts from earlier in the year. Lori Ann Turner, Roger Green, John L. Wynn Sr. and April Byrd voted for the resolution while Dr. William Bell and Fred Blackmon voted against it.
