Superintendent Duncan addresses county commissioners over Swine Flu information
The possible swine flu news was first reported by Pike County administrator Steve Marro at Wednesday's commission meeting.
Dr. Michael Duncan, superintendent of Pike County schools, arrived at the meeting later and angrily addressed county commissioners. Duncan, pictured at right addressing the commission, believes that Marro was out of line in releasing the information about a possible swine flu outbreak before schools officials had the chance to contact parents. Apparently there are two students in Pike County school(s) who are being tested for swine flu. Neither the ages of the students nor the school(s) they attend was disclosed but indications are they are from the same family. Test results are expected within the next 48 hours.

Burousas fire definitely arson; reward offered
As we reported yesterday, state fire marshals have ruled the weekend fire at the home of Teresa and the late Buzz Burousas near Concord was deliberately set.
The home was the scene of a July 1 shooting death. Buzz Burousas was shot twice and killed. Teresa Burousas is charged with his murder. She feigned an attack on herself to cover up her role in the slaying, authorities have said. [Full story »]

Houston Hatchett charged with aggravated assault
Larry Houston Hatchett, 38, of Williamson has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly chasing down and attacking a man who allegedly stole his motorcycle, according to sheriff's deputies in Pike and Meriwether counties.
