A bridge on Turner Road in Pike County was closed five years ago by state inspectors who said it was unsafe due to rusting metal pillars and worn concrete. The bridge was recently replaced with a culvert and the road is now reopened to traffic. [Full story »]

All four of Pike County’s schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress under Georgia’s preliminary release of those that have met or not met goals mandated by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
They are among the top 20% of school systems in Georgia – one of only 46 – in which every school made AYP.
