Localized flooding from heavy rains receding

Most areas of Pike County received between 4.5 to 5 inches of rain over the past 48 hours, resulting in localized flooding. The rain has now ended and waters are receding though creeks and ponds are overflowing.

Many have remarked today the runoff is the greatest they have seen since the great flood of 1994.

A man wanted for murder in Cobb County shot himself with a rifle after being pulled over in downtown Zebulon this afternoon. The man, identified as 43-year-old Randall Keith Fisher, subsequently died at a Griffin hospital from the self-inflicted wound. [Full story »]

In May 2008 impact fees helped move the building that once served as the Williamson branch of United Bank to a three-quarter acre lot near the helicopter in Williamson city park. It was to be a library, but now commissioner Tommy Powers wants to give it to Williamson. [Full story »]
