Pike County students will get a third straight snow day Wednesday as schools will be closed due to conditions of secondary roads from the recent winter storm.

I attended school long before the days when there was a telephone in each home or a television set in every room. Without anyone having "modern" conveniences of telephone, Internet, 24 hour Weather Channel, cell phones and email, there was no way to notify us if the schools were closed due to weather. Everyone just showed up.
I graduated high school in 1949 and don't recall schools ever being closed for snow or ice. Now the schools are closed when Ken Cook on Channel 5 even mentions a light snowfall in his prevaricating forecast. We did miss a school day in 1947 when a surprise tornado blew away our school outhouses and large wood pile while damaging part of the roof of our single room school house. Repairs were quickly made and it was back to reading writing and arithmetic preparing us to be good students.
We respected our teachers in those days and not a single one of them ever made romantic advances on their students. Nowadays the last 2 or 3 generations show the results of being raised in namby-pamby land as characterized by Dr. R. Lee Ermey. Little Johnny Namby and Susie Pamby in unison say, "Oh good! we can stay home from school today and play our Wii and video games all day cuz school is boring."
There were very few busses to transport school kids in my day.
My brother and I walked to school or we rode double on a half blind mule.
Heck, I remember many days we walked to school and back in hip deep snow and it was UPHILL BOTH WAYS and the hill was very steep. We wore black PF Flyers.
Everybody freaks out when 1 inch of snow falls around Pike County. Bunch of WIMPS! I remember being shot at by enemy soldiers in Korea when the snow was 5 feet deep for which I was thankful for that depth even though I was 6 ft. tall in those days.
There were no scared-of-the-snow-stay-at-home-Pike County-wimps in my outfit.
We were genuine tough country boys and not transplanted Atlantans or Claytonians.
The sun is out now and the deep 1/2 inch snow drifts should be melted real soon.
I suppose all the schools will re-open tomorrow, unless, Ken Cook reports the day will be cloudy and overcast with 5 mph winds. That probably means only half-day school.
I know it's not your fault that I'm old. I'm reminded of an old piano plunker who lived long before your time and you probably never heard of him.
Eubie Blake said,
"If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."
That about sums it up for me. My thoughts were that I would live hard, die young and leave a handsome corpse. It didn't happen. I'm old. All that cavorting, drinking, gambling, carousing around with loose women and not going to church on Sunday took a huge toll on my body. I hope you understand that's why I'm old. Ask your daddy why he is so old. I'm sure he will appreciate it.
"You can follow me on twitter if you would like."
Thank you for the invitation to follow you, but, I don't own a bicycle or a twitter.
You are a nice person to take an interest in this lonely old veteran. God bless you.

Thank you ladies! Thank you very much..Thank you Kandi! (growling like Elvis).
I may be calling your shop soon to use your services. I was thinking of getting some long hair extensions ala Dog The Bounty Hunter of A&E TV fame.
My wife says Da' Dog needs hair plug transplants or at least he should soak his head in a 5 gallon slop bucket filled with Rogaine to grow him some peach fuzz in order to color match his lil' sissy girl hair style. Hmm..I should likely rethink this.
What do you think? Extensions or Jheri Curl wig for this old timer?
I'm a little sparse on top hairwise and sport a perfect compression circle around my head by wearing a loser Braves cap pulled down too tight above my ears.
Can you fix that too? New color? Gray to RED? I'd like that. Red hair.Red face.
