Parole set for third serial church arsonist
A third serial church arsonist, part of a group of young men who vandalized and burglarized churches throughout middle Georgia, has been paroled.
Travis Robert Gowey, about age 33, was paroled March 10 and will remain on parole for more than 100 years, until July 28, 2109. Gowey received the highest number of years to serve of any of the church arsonists paroled so far, 551 years’ worth of concurrent sentencing. He served 14 years.
He was convicted in Lamar, Upson, Monroe, Peach, Jones, Bibb, Morgan, Pike, Clayton, Putnam, Spalding and Baldwin counties for a grand total of 56 counts burglary, 17 counts vandalizing a place of worship, two counts theft by taking, escape, criminal interference with government property, two counts arson and criminal trespass.
Gowey is to live in Monroe County with his mother Wendy Clayton at 89 Morgan Rd., Juliette. He is to pay $30 a month to the Georgia Crime Victims Fund, be placed on electronic monitoring and attend educational courses.

When he gets to around the age of 120 years old, the parole officer may have to consider making house calls.
