My question is HOW did they come to own it?
Because the area was devistated and retail traffic was virtually non-existent, they got the property for a steal. I believe they said $5M. Reportedly, it's now valued at $20M.
There were some discussions about them selling the property and locating the Mosque somewhere else in the area IF they could get MORE than retail value for the property and IF they could find a suitable location within a certain area, but nothing has been determined yet.

This has nothing to do with how far away from ground zero this building is..morons are protesting against the first amendment in several states by attacking peoples right to religious freedom. It is a sad day in America when people think owning guns (2nd amendment) is more important than allowing people to worship God in which ever way they feel is right (1st amendment). I suppose our Founding Fathers did not know what they were doing with that one..maybe the thought that Catholics and Protestants killing each other in Europe, trying to decide who was right, was idiotic.
When I read these posts, I rethink my position on evolution.
1 - i never said anything about who hired this terrorist coward for anything. i don't care who hired him or what they hired him for. i don't want him building a shrine to the cowards that destroyed the world trade center that was full of innocent people.
2 - On more than one occasion God (Jesus) (I'll let you figure out the Holy Trinity on your own) destroyed or sent a man to destroy the enemies of God. You can spend some time in your own Bible and find those times because believe me, you need it.
3 - muslims do not worship God. They worship allah and the prophet mohamed and apparently cowards like osama bin laden who kill unarmed civilians in the name of allah.

2.You are so right. Old Testament scripture is filled with more violence and destruction than any other religious text. But perhaps you should follow-up with the New Testament. Pay close attention to the words in red. If God is that unforgiving, perhaps you should not be as upset at all Muslims for the few radicals that have attacked non-believers. Hate is hate, it knows no religion. An equivalent example is believing all male Christians are closet-homosexuals just because Teg Haggard thought it was more fun to be one. Jesus did say one of the most important commandments was to love your brother as yourself.
3.Also, in case its not in your version of the Bible, there is only one God. Muslims do not worship Mohammad - as he is just a prophet and is therefore not depicted in Islamic art, drawings etc. precisly so that he is not Idolized (that honor belongs to God). Islam is one of 3 Abrahamic religions (I will give you a hint as to the other two-just fill in the blank, Jud__sm and Chri__anity). And guess what, Jews killed Jesus and they don’t believe he is God. Oh Lord, I let the cat out of the bag.
