Mack Crawford has experience on the farm and in the courtroom. He grew up in Concord and has lived there his entire life. He was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue as a judge in the Griffin Superior Court circuit on Aug. 10.

Please judge with a fair and balanced hand, Mack. Please consider the individual circumstances of each case rather than branding in categories. Please do not reject common sense in lieu of the most severe punishments that ruin lives and protect no one, as in the case of some young men branded as "sex offenders" who may have made an egregious mistake in judgement by talking to an undercover cop who bordered on entraping them, but never did anything and would never harm a child.

If they agree to have sex with someone who they believe to be a child, no matter if the child is not a real child, send them to prison. They are sick. Only a pedophile would entertain that thought. The fact that it turns out to be an undercover is a blessing. If the kid were real, we would have a victimized child.

Statutory rape is different.

Give child molesters huge sentences and stop locking up no-violent drug offenders for years and wasting the space we could use on perverts and violent psychos.

I sure hope Judge Crawford doesn't go to Home Depot while Donna Jo is tipsying around in the store. He needs to steer clear of that woman!
Mack is a REAL farmer and a REAL judge. We need him!

I work in the University System, and I have seen young men't lives ruined because of terrible mistakes in judgement. An undercover cop says one time she will be 16 in "a couple months," and the 21-yr. old agrees to meet her but never does; a 19-yr. old is dating a 15-yr. old and they have consensual sex; a 14-yr. old girl at a colleg bar lies and says she is 17 and she has consensual sex with a 22-yr.old. These young men are jailed and put on the sex offender registry after they have paid their debt, even though they are no threat to "children." THey are treated the same as rapists and men who molest 10-year-olds. The age of consent in Georgia was 14 in the 90's and then was raised to 15, so those who wouldn't have been considered "sick" now are. What a waste of taxpayer and law enforcement money to monitor these people as if they are going to abduct your 7-yr.-old. Meanwhile, there is no way these young men can reintegrate into society and move forward into productive lives after serving their time. Not all sex offenders are the same, as media and politicians will have you believe for high ratings and easy votes from an uninformed public.

How about they never make the mistake of trying to sleep with someone that young. Is it that hard for them to say "No" to someone that age?

If we are speaking of a 19yo and a 15/16 yo, yeah, I get your point. But if some 30 year old comes along and does the same thing, send his ass to jail. There is something off in his head.

I work in the field of child sexual exploitation and I have seen many children's lives ruined because of terrible mistakes of these same young men. Tell them to use their brain to think and not their penis.

How about putting the same emotion into helping young victims of molestation instead of trying to ensure the perpetrators of such action are able to live their lives normally and without consequences for their actions.

How about we put money into educating/counseling the 15-yr.olds who go to bars and lie about their ages? How about the ones who fall in love with older guys (late teens, young 20's guys). If you think 15-yr.-olds, in this day and age, are naive "children," you have had your head in the sand. They can make decisions, but they may make very bad ones, and they need to be educated. And, by the way, my grandparents got married when my grandfather was 22 and my grandmother was 16. 50 years and 2 children later, they are celebrating their anniversay. I don't think my grandmother was scarred for life. Some of the "perverts" on the SO Registry have gone on to marry their girlfriends and have successful relationships, yet they continue to be persecuted. The media caters to ignorance on the subject by hyping the 1% of cases that involve violent predators. The vast majority (over 90%) of child molestations are perpetrated by family or close friends. More education is needed on this topic as well. A much better way to spend our taxpayer dollars as opposed to restricting and monitoring these young men who had consensual sex with 15-year-olds. In my position, I have had to educate myself on the facts. I suggest that if more people would take the time to do so, we would have rational laws that truly protect children. Right now we have politics instead of justice and laws based on the fears of people educated by Nancy Grace. If anyone would like the Justice Department statistics on this topic or links to the Colorado Criminal Justice Department White Paper on Sex Offender Residency Restrictions or studies done in NY and NJ, just let me know and I will provide links.

Honey, I know all the Justice Department stats. People that know it is illegal to sleep with a certain age and still do it have control problems. Ignorance and disdain of the law do not excuse the breaking of said law. I do not think anyone under 20 should be tried for statutory rape or for any consensual sexual behavior with any child 15 yo or older.

But if you are older than that, you need to get a grip and stop looking for excuses.

You must know Mindy and you must be upset. I heard she was an equal opportunity lover anyway. She slept with kids and married men a like. How in the world she was not charged with production of child pornography is beyond me. That is one lucky woman. She could be in federal prison right now.

I know stats too. Do you know that the average pedophile victimizes and average of 115 children before being brought to justice for the first time??

Have you been with these offenders 24 hours per day / 365 days per year and are 100% sure they have never done anything like that before?

Maybe I should sign myself as "Anonymous." I don't know Mindy, and I'm not fighting for pedophiles. I want law enforcement to spend their time and resources focusing on dangerous, violent predators and not on the types of offenders I have mentioned. Here are some documented facts, Sweetie. I'll live next to the 21-yr.-old who had consensual sex with a 15-year-old, and you can live next to the person who killed or seriously injured another(maybe a minor!)while driving intoxicated, or the one who beats his wife,
or the one who was convicted of armed robbery or assault with a deadly weapon, none of whom are put on a public list after they have served their time in jail (or who get probation on first-offender status), and whose recidivism rates (the ones who are CAUGHT) are much higher than those of sex offenders. The guy who beat the singer Rihanna to a pulp and threatened to kill her gets probation, while some 21-year-old who makes a terrible mistake in judgement by having consensual sex with an almost-16-yr. old, or who just talks about it on the internet, gets a few years in jail and a lifetime of working and housing restrictions, along with harassment and scorn.

As a matter of fact, anyone can go online and look up all people that have been in the Georgia prison system. I am not sure what year this began to be tracked though. Just go to the Georgia department of corrections home page and select inmate query.

The great state that Georgia is just makes it easier for parents, like myself, to zero in on the ones that have no business being around our kids.
