Part 11 in a serialization of interviews published on the 26th anniversary of the brutal murder of Donna Johnson:
Judge E. Byron Smith:
Smith was Flint Circuit District Attorney at the time of the murder and is now a senior judge serving in the Griffin circuit.
“When I got to the scene, I remarked that they better catch somebody tonight because people had trampled all over the evidence. “Over the years, we had all kinds of suspects and evidence come up but none of it ever panned out. I always figured it was a serial killer just passing through the area or a random event.

Murder victim Donna Ogletree Johnson.
where's that commentor here that kept adamantly telling me that they DID have the scene protected and marked off?
''He would not comment on the case without permission of current Lamar sheriff Larry Waller''
Hmm, Waller didn't give him permission or he would have said more. Wonder why??
''From what I reviewed, there was enough probable cause to pursue a possible indictment of a suspect.”
well, why didn't this happen??
''I do not expect an indictment anytime soon''
Why? you just stated that there WAS enough evidence to pursue an indictment!
The more I read about this case, the creepier it gets. All things point to a huge cover up. SICK
Why? you just stated that there WAS enough evidence to pursue an indictment!"
He is saying to us "Good luck having the current people in charge do anything about it."
