The murder of Donna Johnson on July 16, 1984 changed Barnesville-Lamar County and the Vega Road/Piedmont community in Pike County for good.
Many began locking doors to their homes which had never before seen a latch.
Firearms permits sold like lemonade on a hot day.

I think the printed edition of The Pike Journal-Reporter will be very interesting this week. This Friday, July 16 is the sad anniversary of Donna's death. I hope and pray they catch the murderer(s). I continue to tell myself that it is still possible. That someone who knows, and someone(s) does, will make that special call. It would be a mighty big burden for someone to get off their mind and heart. I hope the scumbag(s) is not already in Hell.....I would love for them to suffer the public humiliation they so richly deserve.
What was the evidence and why was it destroyed
Now days when women get killed, it's either a accident or suicide. I guess since Donna's death they have gotten smarter. They can kill people and never get caught when it's well planned out. That's called premeditated murder.
There was no question how Donna Johnson died. She was mutilated.
I think as Sheila does, if someone knows something, please do the right thing.
Incident Date: Jul 16, 1984
Location: Body Found : Lamar County, 8:52 p.m.
Sex: Female
Birth Range: 28
Narrative:
1984 LAMAR COUNTY HOMICIDE
On July 16, 1984, Donna Ogletree Johnson, a 28 year old white female, left her home in rural Lamar County, Georgia, en route to a nearby dumpster to empty trash. She never returned to the residence. Her automobile and two small dogs were found parked at the dumpster a few hours later by a passerby, but Ms. Johnson was not found. According to friends and relatives of Ms. Johnson, this was both unusual and suspicious.
Law enforcement officers from the Lamar County Sheriff's Department in Barnesville, Georgia were dispatched to the abandoned car immediately. Rene M. Hood, a deputy sheriff for Lamar County, was the first law enforcement officer on the scene. She was notified at 4:40 p.m., July 16, 1984. Upon responding to the scene and being familiar with Ms. Johnson, Deputy Sheriff Hood immediately knew that something was terribly wrong.
A search party was organized shortly thereafter, consisting of Lamar County and surrounding area law enforcement authorities. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Region Six Office in Milledgeville was also called by then Lamar County Sheriff Frank Monaghan to assist in the investigation. Shortly after the discovery of the vehicle, a heavy downpour of rain began which hampered investigative and search efforts.
At 8:52 p.m., the body of Donna Ogletree Johnson was found bound and gagged in the rain filled ruts of an abandoned logging road. By the time her body was found, the heavy downpour had washed away much of the potential evidence that may have helped in the investigation.
Witnesses including neighbors, acquaintances, relatives and passersby have been interviewed over the years since Ms. Johnson's murder. However, no strong suspect has ever been developed.

It was after dark when Donna Johnson's hogtied body was found dumped in the woods near a white frame country church. She had been raped, sodomized, beaten, run over by a truck and killed with three blows from a blunt instrument."
Dorothy, this is copied from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. If this is not enough gory details to promote your showing a little love towards 'what is left' of Donna's family, let me know. I will send you the info so you can read the entire sickening article.
I accept your apology.
I noticed that got quiet quick.
I know because they spend a good bit of time trying to intimidate people who tell the truth about them and the laws they break. So they watch every move you make on a computer. They spend a good bit of time trying to cover their own tails.
Donna was a very sweet and well loved person as well as her family. I'm still praying every day with you Becky hoping that you will find out the truth about your sister.
Many people saw her body and what all had been done to her. We heard many accounts from different ones that never hit the paper.
Not taking away from Donna's case, but Helen Ann Morgan is still missing since 1984 from Barnesville, GA and most likely dead to.
The state of Georgia is a dangerous place for women. Particularly around rural areas.
Killers take their victims to a place they feel at ease and a place they are familiar with. I think the fact that she was taken to the logging road is a huge clue here.
think about maybe they dont.... i would think that they would be hateful, mean spirited, loner and maybe even abusive to a spouse or even children..probably a heavy drinker or drug user by now ,to try and forget it...someone that new the community well, but was someone most people new and maybe didnt like but thought not him or her they just mean and crazy...log road by the church. rough maybe ,but new her family was godly people.
stranger passing through, just dont make since i think they would have just grabbed and took her off somewhere, never to be found again.but this person or persons wanted her gone but found....
I know he does things in his own time. One thing I can tell you is he hurts them worse than anything you could ever think of. He will in time make them pay for what they have done.
He took things from me to get my attention.
He's with me every day. And he makes sure I know it. He put me here for a reason and he's let me know why.
I think blogging can be terribly detrimental or extremely beneficial. It depends on the results that the blogs may trigger. I disagree with negative input if a person does not have the guts or nuts to use their real name. I applaud you for "stepping up to the plate" in Jimmy's defense, as well as, I would applaud anyone who will call the GBI tip line with real info that they may have remembered. I hope the case is kept alive by the media until the guilty person(s) is shackled and chained. (Although hogtied, raped, gagged, sodomized and murdered with adequate blows to the head on an evidence diminishing rainy evening ...would be my justice of choice.) I wish someone would remind the United States of September 11,2001 as well as Walter has reminded local counties of Donna's tragedy. That terrible event has also been forgotten and ignored until it may as well be a misdemeanor.
