Press release from Capt. Tony Ranieri of the Spalding County sheriff's office:

A 18 year old man has been arrested by investigators for the shooting of his grandmother according to Sheriff Dee Stewart.

This is my cousin's ex boyfriend. I almost had him in the family. he can be nice but he is psycho! He was really calm and then he got into alot of trouble for stealing or something so my cousin broke up with him and he like stalked her so she got a restraining order on him and next thing you know he shoots his grandma! We talked to his parents about it. He is crazy!!!

The term usually refers to methodically striking the offender with an implement, whether in judicial, domestic, or educational settings.

If the above corporal punishment is illegal, many of my school teachers were corporals. I wish they were back in todays courtrooms.

I am aware that we can discipline our children. However, it always seems to be determined to be a "bad thing", if we do. I understand the difference between a simple spanking and "beating" them to the point of injuries. I don't need that separated for me. I am/was merely saying: that it is often mistaken by authorities and carried to another level if a child receives a "simple spanking" and someone cries he/she was "beaten". It's ridiculous....thus meaning: that we basically cannot discipline our children, for fear of getting into trouble ourselves.

I could not sleep at night if I knowingly let a person spank my child ANYONE! HOWEVER; I would leave ANYTHING I was doing to go and handle the problem on my own. I would not spank my child in front of others either, that is humiliating and uncalled for IN ALL CASES. You take them home and take corrective action, one on one. The wait is good for them. Discipline should be adequate not excessive. Anything more than adequate and you too are a child abuser.

The bloggers have already called God in to judge on the two year old who was allegedly murdered by two lesbians, the murder of Chris Chambley on Reid Road, the murder of the rapper Jerode Martez Paige (aka Yung Hott) and pretty, young thang Jennifer Clark who beat her estranged husband to death with a baseball bat. Two of our senior judges have already been driven to resigning their post for "talking inappropriately to women and possible fornication." How much more do you people expect God to do at one time? We are killing him. This is only one month in a 100 mile radius. Give God a break, child. I believe it is all a conspiracy against drug free wonderful children, don't you? We really do understand that sweet, little eighteen year old Douglas Patrick Ward was probably defending himself against that old mean, evil Grandma. Otherwise, he would not have been charged with Aggravated Assault Family Violence; Tampering with evidence; and Obstruction AFTER the investigation was complete. Now, sweetie, you just keep praying for all these poor murderers and their heartbroken families. God will be back with you,........HE IS JUST REAL DARN BUSY RIGHT NOW!

Sheila..what sort of backwards, small-town bumpkin church do you attend? “The bloggers have called on God to judge”…..really? Since when does he take orders from us? Since when do we know the mind of God and what he has planned? Did you forget about Jesus message of forgiveness and non judgement (this includes prostitutes, murderers and thieves)? I am glad Hell is still empty. I know God does not care what we all do wrong. That is why he is on the throne. To forgive and judge. We have too many people anyway. There is a law before obama right now that states that people will only be able to have one child per couple. Unless, the couple is married, then they cannot have kids. They will be allowed a free abortion if they slip up. I attend the Church of the What's Happening Now. Please come with me. We have services every day except Sunday. You will love our communal wines. I always hate to agree with Sheila but if you throw enough rocks at a building then you are bound to hit it once. I also so hate when people say we are not the judge of people. We live in a jury system which makes us the judge of at least crimnals and this young man killed someone and a jury will eventually have to judge him unless he saves the taxpayers money and plea bargain.

It just irritates me that kids and adults pop back with "Do not judge, God is the only judge, you shall be judged," These people need to understand that God expects people to abide by the law of the land. So when murderers get to court and are found guilty, telling them to remove your handcuffs and chains, because God is your only judge, MOST LIKELY will not work. Now GOD will be your final judge. There was no internet while my Great-great grandparents were alive. They also grew their own food and paid 5 cent for a loaf of bread.
My point is, times are different. You can forbid violent movies, games and restrict internet use all you want, but children are children. By nature, they will test their boundaries. They will find a way.
But, if you want to lock your children in their room and allow them no freedom to hang out with their friends as not to expose them to violent media, then you will have another set of issues to deal with. Otherwise, they will still be exposed to a society that is much more violent, sexual and trigger-happy than your grandparents ever knew.
I choose not to spank because I find that there are more evolved methods of parenting. I do not want to teach my child that violence is the answer to solving problems or modifying a persons behavior which may lead to domestic violence. It is not worth the risk.
It is funny because my child would rather be spanked than to clean the garage, mow the lawn, take away the phone, tv or whatever. I find this to be much more effective.

I don't lock my kid up and shelter them from the world. They are allowed to participate within reason. They know right from wrong and are level-headed. That starts with the parents though...if one is uninterested in teaching this to their children, then there ARE going to be some MAJOR problems. At the same time, there are few boundaries mine will cross due to what is to come (punishment, whether that BE a good old-fashioned "whippin" or priveleges taken away and or items.) Spankings are not an issue in my household and have never been. My point is: if need be....I'll be handing them out and they know it (I'm not talking about a small child, either). I'm in charge and if it takes a spanking to reiterate that, then so be it. I know with this particular kid, if he had his butt tore up a few times...this may not have taken place.

They should be helping around the house anyway, not only have to do so, as a result of a punishment.

Correct. It is not the spanking that is cause for concern. It is for those that cannot control themselves and the result is severe bruising, broken bones or internal injuries that injure the child beyond a couple of welts and light bruises. I can't beleive people actually think law enf. and "government" care if you spank your kid without injuring more than the kid's pride

As a matter of fact, I had an argument with my 16 year. Old son who is 6'5 about 165 lbs. And I am 4'11, 115lbs. He grabbed me, and I went to yank away from him, my rings scratched his arm, and it scratched him. Our neighbors called the cops because we were yelling. Guess what, I got arrested, for family violence, I had never even had a parking ticket in my life. So, he even told the court it was a misunderstanding, but they didn't give a darn. So, if a scratch and a red maek can get you arrested, so can spanking your child. If they tell someone like at school, your in trouble. Trust me, I got my butt tore up as a child. I told the judge when I went to court that the gov. Has taken the parents right s from us to disipline our kids. That's why we have so many gangs, drugs, rapes, and murders. And Guess who my judge was....CALDWELL! I have put this behind me now, but, just remember, if you do spank your child, do it cautiously, or you can wind up in my situation. Just thought I would share!

I might have missed it in the article--but where are this young man's parents? Did they leave him for his Grandmother to raise? If so, that is the problem. I busted my boys behind, but I'm Grandma age now--I'm tired and a lot more tolerant now--Grandmas aren't supposed to discipline. Children want to be disciplined; it makes them feel safe, secure, and loved. Parents are not doing their children any favors letting them grow up to be jerks--the rest of the world doesn't love them like that.

But for the record I knew this boy very personally he was my husbands best friend and he was at my house more than he was at his grandmothers. Just because your husband is his best friend, doesn't make you knowing of all things and or situations relative to his family and how he was brought up. You know what Douglas told you. Come on, surely you are bright enough to know that there are always two sides to every story.

Let's just say, I knew him AND his family VERY well actually and I am firm in saying, you're wrong on several of your points. Period...

Keep praying for him, he's gonna need it where he's going for the next several years.
