Well this Doc is wrong, I have a carry/conceal permit and I carry a G-19 with 147gr. Hydra-shock personal protection ammo everywhere I go. I conceal the weapon if needed or wanted but, I mostly carry in the open. It is my right to carry under the 2nd Amendment and it is your right under the 1st. Amendment to speak your peace. You got that right because people had weapons and fought for their rights. It isn’t a macho trip either. I carry because it is a sign of the times and a big deterrent.
I believe in the Constitution and the Right to Bear Arms. I have my Federal Firearms License with several Class III weapons and Class III ammo that can be purchased because the law affords me that right. These types of weapons are law enforcement and military grade but normal law abiding, respected, honest citizens like myself can posses.

Only thugs, gangsters, crack heads and crooks use guns in ways that get the whinny gun haters all worked up. Now, I hope this never happens to Dr. Meeks but if she is getting car jacked or robbed and a civilian sees this deed go down and they don't intervene but, ask her afterwards “did you want we to help?" I wonder what she will say then.

I want the country back where everyone worked and made their own way instead of expecting someone else to pay for everything.

As far as gun ownership. If everyone carried one on their hip we would be a much more polite society.

Criminals will always be able to obtain guns. And most of them already have them. This has been proven time and time again in every country that has implemented strict gun control laws.

When I said everyone I meant law abiding citizens in addition to the criminals who are currently carrying them anyway despite what the law says.

If the law had remained that if you kill someone you hang, there wouldn't be an issue with violent criminals.

Self defense is not murder. Accidents? Maybe maybe not. It depends on facts, ages, thoroughness of the investigation, etc. If you kill somebody because they destroy someone that you love. Just plan it really well, never tell another person, and be sure the body is never found. People run away all the time. If you are one of those people who just CANNOT keep secrets,...tell two people, but kill them afterward.

If guns are banned these criminals who are going to get the guns anyway are then going to know we don't have guns in our homes to protect ourselves and they are not going to think twice about breaking into your home to steal, rape and maybe even kill. There is always good with bad this is America if you don't want to carry a gun don't. But if we keep allowing the government to control everything we will all be victims.

The article submitted by Ms. Meeks is a reminder of just how these socialist/progressive "chavez" supporting ideologs are trying to give everyone their opinion as to how this country should be centered. We are a republic not a great socialist utopia dependant on the few "thinkers" who know whats "best" for the rest of us; You are free and have the right to leave if you don't like it here. My family has been here since before the Revolutionary War and has contributed in every war since. I know from my experience in Iraq and in South America what would happen if it got to the point to where Americans couldn't protect themselves from people like you and the government who wants us to be social dependants. Remember this, Only from my cold dead hands will my Liberty be pryed.., Do your research Doctor, only your criminals, drug dealers, and gangsters can get a gun cheaper than I can and can do it in about 5 minutes on the corner. Instead of sitting on your rear next to the pulpit get on a plane and travel to the county's in Africa and South America and you will appreciate the liberty's and freedom that are barely hanging on here.

By the way, someone commented as to why this lady should be able to publish her views. I'm glad that the Pike-Journal gives her this right and affordability as its lets everyone know just the kind of thought process these mental midgets have regardless of their Phd. in local government fed institutions. If you will note in Ms. Meeks article she started out with a "satirish" quote that reflects a pacifist type diatribe. When you see this in any article or comment always understand that they are taught to do this in their writing to lull the participant(reader) in, as an act of non-violent satire. Remember, peace and freedom come with a price, and so do these people.

There are about 700 (probably a slight exageration) theories in sociology all in direct conflict with one another.

I told my professor that all I saw was a bunch of hot air from a bunch of people who just see the world through their own lens. She said I knew everything I needed to know about sociology and gave me an A for the class.

1 - Yes, I am willing to change my mind on a subject if presented an argument that is well thought out and accurate. It's called critical thinking.

a - We have higher crime rates and domestic violence than ever in this country so those aren't working.

b - If these "theories" worked we wouldn't have need for child welfare, instead these theories have increased the need for government interference in day-to-day lives and increased the number of people on government assistance to the point where nearly 50% of America is living off the other 50%.

c - Social engineering has never been used for the good of the people but for the good of the wealthy and the re-election of politicians.

You need to talk with someone you know that is in one of these professions and you will see how passionate we are about helping people in need. Or better yet, talk to the SW on the base as I do not have the time or desire to convince you otherwise in this medium. Hopefully, you will seek more info. on the subject for your own personal growth.

The article was a ridiculous view of gun control and you had to throw out your "sociology" comment. It is not good to make large general comments like that about vast numbers of people.

I would have to believe that UGA would fire a professor that gave a student a grade after three weeks and other students in that class would have been angry that they had to do the work and you did not. You can take CLEP tests and skip some classes altogether - never even have to show up for the class. It really depends on the student's apptitude-has little to do with the instructor. Perhaps you were at a different level and didn't CLEP. And, if you spent $25,000 on a Sociology degree, you got ripped off-maybe you should've taken math before all that sociology kicked in. I have an associates (Gordon), bachelors (Georgia State University) and masters (Georgia College)and didn't spend that much on tuition. Did you go to Harvard? Did you even consider the payback on such an investment? It sounds like you might want to consider going to UGA and getting a different degree; I'm sure you can still CLEP.

That lady in the purple hat is still not presenting anything of value, regardless of where you went to school, how much it cost, or what UGA did in 1984. I can't even look at the picture and hold my composure; how could anyone take her seriously.

Actually, I didn't pay for it, my parents saved money for me like responsible parents and they paid for it. I don't make much, but much more than 25K per year and do what I love (so I guess it has paid back the parents). I do a job most people say they couldn't and I am in management. I feel a true calling and ministry when I go to work, not just giving my time away for money. It's about doing what you love and not for money sometimes. It is sad that you would say something like that to me and not know me since I have devoted 15 years of my life to this career to help families and people like you. Hope you have a great day : )

This comment kind of concerns me... some people go to college to actually take the class and participate. I realize some degrees are very nonspecific, but it kind of negates the entire purpose...CLEP is only for a limited number of hours BTW - Did you just say a human being has no value??? may just what she "presented" I hope.. not sure what is going on with this comment at all yikes

Are you the same anon as 91122122? I can honestly say that if you work in the capacity of helping the mentally challenged adults in the mac trail district, I am very happy with you and appreciate you every day. If you work for the welfare office, I don't really think you're necessary.

Having said that, regardless of where you work, your reading comprehension is lacking. I was very careful with articulating exactly how useless this lady's writings are; not that she was useless. I know she is a mother of two, and I know she owns her own publishing company (only because no other company would publish her works-because her writings are not marketable ideas (aka useless-like I said). I checked her out before commmenting.

Do you hide behind anon because you don't want people to see your ideas? That is a disservice to your school and your profession (which you seem to be having trouble defending). My sister-in-law is a sociologist, and you aren't measuring up. You need to build a stronger premise than the CLEP or how much school costs. Why aren't you asking who will take care of people who have no family? Who will administer aid to those that actually need it? Who will assist the confused in the sea of paperwork required to get any assistance, whether public or private? I have worked in homeless shelters and tutored the poor; I know what you do matters. Why are you not defending what matters? You make it too easy for "us" to hammer you. And, I had a prof @ GSU (industrial psych) that offered to test out in the first 2 weeks, and that's a fact-I witnessed it myself-some got out of the class, but I didn't, I had to do the work to get the grade.

Once again, it is obvious. Social care workers provide personal care and support services to individuals, families and
communities to help meet basic needs and give them quality of life
and enhance capabilities to help people become as
independent as possible- from birth to death (hospital(birth), health department, school, 4-H, Mental health provider, marriage counselors, parenting services for new mother/father, fatherhood initiatives, divorce counseling, Senior Center, grief counselors, victim's advocate, rape/violent crime counselor, Clergy, Dispute resolution, mediation, probation /parole , corrections, substance abuse counselors, families of substance abuser counseling, health educator, geriatric counselor/case management for elderly in home services, Career counseling, job placement, Red Cross services, Armed Forces Replacement services, Counselor for group- post traumatic stress /soldier in active combat, ETC

If you never lose a loved one, know someone with sub. abuse problems, are involved with a divorce in the family, experience a natuaral disaster, go on active military duty, are a victim of a crime, get injured or get old, then you will never need a social service provider. Good luck with that!

Actually, the professor took a vote of the students in the class and the agreed by majority vote so no angry students their.

Also, this was in the time before the "Government" had to run everything so professors were allowed to think for themselves instead of being driven by the liberal agenda we see in colleges now.

Hey remember Jan Kemp who blew the whistle on giving grades at UGA in 1982. I believe you would have attended UGA after that year. I do not believe any professor at UGA would have just assigned a grade to anyone during that time.

what are you talking about? It is "designed" to anaylize behaviors and develop a body of knowledge about the behaviors, usually with the goal of helping society- that is what it is- guess you should have taken the class and not messed around with the CLEP in college (sorry couldn't resist)

When guns are outlawed, only those with who disregard law will have them.

If you want to see how murder and violence still exist in a nation that doesn't allow gun possession, just look at the UK. They just changed to new weapons.

You will not remove the element from society that is destructive or harmful. However, taking away the ability to defend myself as I see fit is just as destructive.

Oh, and not everyone lives in a major metropolis and there are plenty of reasons I need a gun when having to go outside on my 15 acres.
