The Pike County commission voted 3-1 tonight to deny a special exception for Ron's Pond, the controversial Pike mud bogging operation run by Ron Snowden. The vote left an overflow crowd of 40-50 bogging enthusiasts grumbling.

On the other hand, allowing a business like this a trial run before getting the special exception approval allowed people to see the good and the bad first. That appears to be what contributed to the board's decision.
Truly the mud bogging was clever, because there is obviously a market for it around here. It just needs to be done properly. There is a reason for the process.
place to establish a HUGE bogging park. OH but
then the police would not have any where to pull in and park and talk to each other. Ron is a good man and he was trying to have something for the teens to do but OMG he was making a little money and the county couldnt stand it. Thanks Tommy for your vote at least you have compassion for someone trying to do good and make a living. It is a shame when you cant play in the mud on your own property!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck to you. I hope you get it passed somehow. IF not, tell them you have a lot of company and they got stuck in the drive-way.
Three of the Pike County Commissioners do not have a clue about who elected them. Stick with those three and Pike will c-h-a-n-g-e !

Does any of the "Legacy" Pike County residents remember the race track that was at the intersection of US 19 & McKinley Rd approximately 35 - 40 years ago?
Didn't hurt a soul ... young people had a place to go. Additional benefit: People who came to events spent money in Pike County.
Does any one remember years ago when someone dared to use their property to create a privately owned airport on GA 362 West?
Hasn't hurt a soul ... now being improved and expanded beyond belief. Don't fly or care for flying? OK ... Go to the airport and try the Barnstormers Grill ! ! ! Great Food ... exemplary service ... $$$$ being spent in Pike County ... jobs being created in Pike County.
The Three Blind Commissioners are a danger to Pike County.
Pike County needs to fire them !
If Ron Snowden violated Pike County Zoning then fine him into compliance. Educate Ron Snowden and let him legally find a way to create his attraction. MAYBE it could be put on the 63.67 acres of land owned by the Development Authority of Pike County near the intersection of US41 / 341 and New Hope Road.(Parcel Number: 088 045)
Keep trying Ron Snowden ...
Thanks for trying Tommy Powers!!!
B-U-$-I-N-E-$-$ will follow! ! !
(Note: DO NOT seek advice from a lawyer paid by Pike County. That lawyer was hired by the Commissioners.)
can assist the other commissioners in Decision Making 101? Perhaps a book, Commissioning for Dummies?
Food was sold at the event. Granted some probably went out to eat, but more than one young man who supported the mud bog told how Ron would let them work off what it would cost to play in the mud if they were short on funds.
Sounds like some of them didn't have much to spend on extras. I'm not saying money wasn't spent by the mud bogging crowd. I think it would be interesting to compare weekend sales when the bog was on versus when it wasn't.
This is the formula used by all Cities and Counties. The number 7 represents the Amount of times it takes a $1.00 to spent out....
Examble $50.00 x 150 people = 7500.00 x 7 = $52,500.00 thats how Many $$$$$ that were brought into the County.....
(Food,Gas,Drinks,Beer,Ice and Supplies)
(If it is a multiple day event than the figure goes to $150.00 per Day per person....)
1. GAS- most mud trucks burn alot of gas..lord knows mine does...in an average day i would burn probably 2 tanks of fuel at ron's pond....thats 15 gallons in one day...and thats just my truck.
2.drinks, snacks, etc- my usual stop before the bog was mr. b's at the intersection of williamson road and hwy 19 and there were countless times i saw 10-15 even 20 people in there buying drinks, snacks tobacco products and then see those same people at the bog 10 minutes later.
3.car wash- ask the guy who owns the car wash at mckinley road how much his business jumped on the weekends of the bog
the list could go on and on and on....but we'll look at it like this....sometimes it's not all about the money or how much somebody spent in your county...it's about how many teens did you get into a controlled environment where they could play in the mud in a structured environment even get advice on what they were doin wrong...how many of those kids weren't out playin on the dirt roads of your fair county which costs you alot more money than them bein at the bog. not only is the bog a safe family environment where alcohol is not allowed, its an outlet for teens from not only pike but surrounding counties.
Look me up in the phone book and call me and we will certainly discuss ignorance.
why does ron have to worry about the mud on the road when all these log trucks drag mud on the rd and its just left there to wear off or wait for rain....what the difference????????
Teen challange what a joke, maybe their parents should have taken them to church for all these activities you are saying they have.
And NO i am not against God but seems like the ones that are over Teen Challange are after reading about them on the internet. If they are for God ("as they say they are") then i done want a part of their so called religion. And i assure you no one is ignorant for saying anything positive about Tommy Powers. He is a good man. I have known and worked with him for about 15 years and never have I met a better man. And what are these activities at the churches???? DUHHHHHHH maybe if you weren't so scared to put your name, we could see about your skeletons and where you go to church and if you have teens and if some of your family needs intervention. Give us all a break and go read "YOUR" bible and see how others are supposed to be treated. Tummy oh how funny, you must be with the "COALITION"!!!!!!!!!
I looked up that last word in your article, DUHHHH, in order to see if I needed to respond. I could not find it in my dictionary. Perhaps your keys just got stuck. May God Bless Us All.
And you will see.
Why I love RHONDA TOWERY
and I love NOT ME.
1. I am not a pilot, I just picked the name. So for you to ASSUME you know my kind, that alone tells me you are too quick on the trigger when making judgements. Thus, it is good you are in avionics and not a pilot.
2. Where exactly did you read in my previous statement that I used to enjoy muddbogging and was attending the muddbogging event where my friend was killed? I was not there, and I have never attended a mudbogging event. I happen to live across the street from a family who bulldozed (completely clear-cut, no replant) approximately 2 acres of their land (directly adjacent to the road) so their kids and their friends could "bog". And they do at all hours. The noise, mud, and dust is intolerable and it is considered completely inconsiderate of them by me and the rest of their neighbors here. We dispise them for it.
3. Traffic noise from HWY 19 is completely differant than the constant up/down throttling of those driving in the "pond". To compare the noise of those revving their engines in the mud to everyday traffic is a very weak argument on your part.
4. No Mud? Give me a break...do they wash their vehicles before leaving?
5. To do in Pike county? Hunting, fishing, baseball, hiking, soccer, camping, visiting friends, horseback riding, and so much more. (Before last years exciting and eventful season for the Pirate football team, was there only church?) What this requires however is a little work from the parents.
To Sheila Tolley...I have enjoyed your post here and agree with alot you have to say. However, did the airport already exist when you moved there, or did they build it after you moved in? Have you ever traveled from ATL on an airplane, or do you elect to drive on account of the noise the aircraft would make as you departed? And no...I would NOT like to live near a Home for Juvenile Delinquents.
Let's do this. Move Teen Challenge back to Griffin where it was previously located and let Ron go through the proper legal channel to get his bogging operation approved.
I have enjoyed our little chat and wasn't the snow beautiful?
