Deputy Jeffrey Boyt is planning a trip to Haiti this month to assist in ongoing relief efforts from the Jan. 12 earthquake. He will be joined in his efforts by longtime family friend Daryl Clark of Thomaston.

If our $100M from the USA that was pledged for relief is not getting to the people, I'm certain Deputy Boyt is not going to have a significant impact. Stay home Deputy Boyt and let the relief agencies that have been there from the beginning do what they are trained to do. If they need you, they will send for you.
Your an itiot. Boyt be safe as you complete your call to help others. You are a wonderful heartfelt person. We wish you well and will be prayin for you safe return.
Just curious, what has any of these other countries done for the U.S. during disasters and such? Why do we continue to give and give, and not get anything in return, expecially when we are broke ourselves? Maybe because it "feels good"?
Need to sweep around our own front door before we go sweep around others. There are people all over the U.S. that need help as well. I agree with the first poster, the deputies assistance won't be nearly as signifigant as it would be locally. But I guess he is getting his 15 mins. of fame.
.....hopefully Deputy Boyt will get more than his 15 minutes of fame. And maybe people help other countries because there are SO many ungrateful jerks here in the USA. I would bet money that you don't lift a finger to help others here in the US. But you are certainly good at pointing the finger. It is so hard to believe that people who try and do right are criticized. You sound like a bunch of jealous fools who like to talk big behind your computer. Get up off your booty and go do some good for someone.
Haven't you ever heard about a tragic situation or watched television footage in the aftermath of a catastrophe and felt the urge to do something to help? Whether one satisfies that urge to help by giving money, joining forces with a mission group or offering prayer, it is an individual's right to do so. Who are you to judge the deputy's decision or motives?
As for other countries giving aid, in response to the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe, many countries offered aid in many forms. These nations included Russia, Germany, Israel, Kenya, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Kuwait and many more.
By many accounts, there are several counties ahead of the U.S. in foreign aid based on various gauges of aid based on national wealth. The U.S. is a very generous country - it just isn't the only generous country in the world.
By the way, what are you doing to help "sweep our own front door?"
So let me get this right you are getting on a man for wnating to do something good in this world we live in. Imagine what our world would be like if everyone wanted to help one another instead of being negative. You must lead a sad life to be so negative to someone trying to do good.

You people are horrible!!! So what if you don't believe in what Boyt is doing. Yall aren't doing a dang thing for anyone! Good for you Boyt. Don't let the sorry people of Pike county who probably never even go outside the coounty lines get to you!
He will be fine. He has done his research. He is a brave man doing what many so called "men" could NEVER do. And BTW....there are some pretty awful people right here too. Backstabbing, hateful, idiots are right here in this county.

I know some posters on this site dont think before they post and some think they can hide behind Annoymous and etc stuff, but when you cross a line then the rules change. These are discusion boards for good civilized discussions and well?

What Are Defamation, Libel and Slander?
Generally speaking,
Defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm.
Slander involves the making of defamatory statements by a transitory (non-fixed) representation, usually an oral (spoken) representation.
Libel involves the making of defamatory statements in a printed or fixed medium, such as a magazine or newspaper.
Typically, the elements of a cause of action for defamation include:
A false and defamatory statement concerning another;
The unprivileged publication of the statement to a third party (that is, somebody other than the person defamed by the statement);
If the defamatory matter is of public concern, fault amounting at least to negligence on the part of the publisher; and
Damage to the plaintiff.
In the context of defamation law, a statement is "published" when it is made to the third party. That term does not mean that the statement has to be in print.
Damages are typically to the reputation of the plaintiff, but depending upon the laws of the jurisdiction it may be enough to establish mental anguish.
Most jurisdictions also recognize "per se" defamation, where the allegations are presumed to cause damage to the plaintiff. Typically, the following may consititute defamation per se:
Attacks on a person's professional character or standing;
Allegations that an unmarried person is unchaste;
Allegations that a person is infected with a sexually transmitted disease;
Allegations that the person has committed a crime of moral turpitude;
While actions for defamation have their roots in common law, most jurisdictions have now enacted statutes which modify the common law. They may change the elements of the cause of action, limit when an action may be filed, or modify the defenses to an action for defamation. Some may even require that the defendant be given an opportunity to apologize before the plaintiff can seek non-economic damages.
Looks like on post # 7 he was just talking in general then on post 7.1 that poster asked a question not really related to post 7 so on post 8 that poster was talking about not this post in particular but answering 7.1 s question. But in post 8 after reading that I have seen other posts that well people better be a little more cautious on what they post because I might be wrong but I believe if someone/a poster violates some of these things then legal action can be taken.
Let's see, first an article about someone doing a good deed with several moronic posts. Then there is an article about unemployment with a comment about how most of the employed in Pike county work outside of the county because there is so little industry here on Pike. Let's think about it for just a minute, if I were involved in researching an apropriate location for my business, I would include checking out the local paper and if I were very far away I would check it out online. After reading the type of comments that are posted on this paper's site, I would mark Pike county way down on my list of prefered locations.
I am quite sure if a business was looking at Pike County to move to, my comment would amount to pretty much nothing in the decision making process.
It won't be the people commenting on articles in the paper that will deter a business from moving here. It will be the lack of resources and facilities.
