Pirates win thriller in overtime
The Pirates basketball team took the Heard County Braves into overtime Jan. 26 and prevailed 63-62 in a thriller at home.
Marcus Wilkens led the Pirates with 19 points and eight rebounds. Wilkens had a slam dunk and free throw in the overtime that sealed the victory for the Pirates.
The game was close all four quarters. The Pirates led 23-22 at the half and 39-38 at the end of the third quarter.
The Pirates dropped a key region match-up to Macon County Jan. 30 by a score of 60-49. The Pirates trailed all game and could not get enough offense going to pull ahead.
The Pirates go to Manchester Saturday to take on the Blue Devils. Three crucial games for the Pirates as they head closer to the end of the season will determine their seed in the region tournament.
