Spalding County authorities have identified the man who shot former Lamar County sheriff Joe Buice Friday afternoon as 38-year-old Michael Stringer.
Stringer lived at the home on East McIntosh Road where the shooting occurred. He was shot and killed by deputies arriving to back up Buice.
Stringer was divorced. His wife and child were not in the home at the time of the incident. Neighbors reported he routinely fired his assault rifle in the backyard in the days and weeks leading up to the shooting.
Buice continues to recover. The other man injured in the incident has been released from the hospital. For more, click

Actually, one of the deputies involved is a life-long Pike resident and a wonderful person. I'm glad all involved will be ok.
