Pike resident sworn in as Thomaston judge
Pike County attorney David Fowler was appointed as Thomaston city judge Tuesday, Jan. 19. Fowler spent years as a prosecutor in the Griffin Judicial Circuit and is retiring as a senior lawyer with the prosecuting attorney's council of Georgia. His salary will be $1,200 each month. Thomaston Mayor Hays Arnold swore Fowler in at a ceremony Friday, Jan. 22.
Fowler spent most of his career as a prosecutor so it will be a change of roles to become a judge.
"It'll be a lot different because now instead of presenting evidence, I'll be evaluating evidence," Fowler said. "I used to recommend sentences in cases but now I'll actually be entering sentences."
Thomaston city manager Patrick Comiskey said of the four candidates who applied for the position, the council decided to appoint Fowler. Court will probably be held two days each month.
