The Downtown Development Authority discussed the acquisition and renovation of the old Adams Street school at its Jan. 19 meeting. Plans include repairing the building's roof, windows, floors and restrooms to make it a community arts center.

Since when did Blalock and Chandler become Certified Door Inspectors? Are they trying to take away the code enforcement ceiling inspectors job? Shame on you boys.

WHY DO WE CONSTANTLY LIVE IN THE PAST? WE NEED A NEW AUDITORIUM, BITE THE BULLET AND FIND A WAY TO BUILD A NEW ONE.

I hope they don't preserve the wooden seats in that old auditorium. Those were the most uncomfortable torture devices ever invented. But, I do love the old school and have fond memories of it.

25 million dollars annually and the school system can't fix the auditorium. Then they give a way a building that could have been useful or at least sold to get funds to fix the auditorium.

Wasn't this the same building that they were wanting to tear down and the cost would be $70,000 to tear it down ? What changed their minds? I read about this here a week or 2 ago.

Why don't they fix the current schools problems?

The building is in too bad a shape to repair with School Board dollars sorta like the auditorium. But the BOC will be more than happy to sink a couple of million into it.

Do we not believe that there were reasons that school moved out of that building many years ago? And stayed out!

I'm sure there were reasons. Most of them centered around the School Board wanting to build a new building rather than fix what they had. If I had to guess they probably promised to build the new building and then fix the old one when everyone was out. Then they would roll back the additional taxes to a more appropriate level.

But like most government entities they didn't do anything they promised and built 5 schools within a 1/2 mile of each other creating a huge traffic mess. Forcing people to be bussed from all over the county.
