Marcell Dampier works on a row of seats while getting the auditorium ready to open back up to the public in April 2010 after it was closed in December 2009. The school auditorium was closed again in December 2011 until foundational issues are fixed and the roof is repaired. The proposed E-SPLOST will make all necessary renovations for the auditorium to be reopened permanently, includ- ing fixing the roof, foundation, ceilings, all the seating, stage and window curtains, fire alarm system, carpet and HVAC system.

The Pike County board of education approved a list of E-SPLOST projects at the May 8 meeting, including repairing and reopening the auditorium, technology upgrades, campus-wide road improvements and building repairs at the high, elementary and primary schools. [Full story »]

Back in the 1960s I found a way to earn some money on my own. Walking with my big Radio-Flyer wagon I’d pick up soft drink bottles along roads of my small hometown of Brooks in south Fayette County.

The ditches and fence lines would become home to unwanted soft drink bottles. Just behind the road signs was another good place to find bottles as well. The bottle wielding Nazis of that era would use the signs as a target for their pleasure. I liked it when they missed; it was money for me. [Full story »]

On Wednesday, May 9, the Lady Pirates traveled to Blessed Trinity and very nearly pulled off the upset of this year’s tournament. In the second round of the State AA Playoffs, the Pike County Lady Pirates faced off with the number one ranked Blessed Trinity Lady Titans in their most difficult game of the season. Despite being decided underdogs, Pike came into the game with a plan and executed it to near perfection. [Full story »]

For Allen and Angela Heape, graduation night will mean three times the pride as their triplets cross the stage and accept their high school diplomas. Emily, Thomas and Sarah Heape are fraternal triplets – not identical – and have very different hobbies and interests. Emily and Sarah were among the four students who tied with the highest GPA for the class of 2012 and Emily is the valedictorian. [Full story »]
